Munich, Germany, and Tokyo, Japan. Rohde & Schwarz has entered a collaboration with NTT DOCOMO regarding technological development of 5G mobile communications. The prospective collaboration will include experimental trials of test & measurement instruments from Rohde & Schwarz covering multiple aspects of 5G technologies.
The technological framework is developed for ultra-high-speed data transmissions of over 10 Gb/s with 1,000 times the capacity of 4G LTE and enables a diverse range of application scenarios as needed for the emerging Internet of Things (IoT).
“With the leading edge technology in global mobile communication, Rohde & Schwarz is a reliable solution partner in realizing the innovative 5G test solutions.” said Seizo Onoe, executive vice president and chief technology officer at NTT DOCOMO. “NTT DOCOMO is targeting commercial launch of 5G in 2020, and we expect the partnership with Rohde & Schwarz to play a considerable role in the area of 5G technology development.”
Roland Steffen, executive vice president test and measurement of Rohde & Schwarz, said, “We are delighted to be selected as a collaboration partner of NTT DOCOMO to contribute with our test & measurement expertise to different aspects of 5G technology development. With a strong global footprint for 4G LTE/LTE-Advanced, Rohde & Schwarz is well positioned and committed to continuously accompany the evolution path from 4G to 5G with leading-edge test and measurement solutions.”
A selection of the 5G test and measurement portfolio of Rohde & Schwarz was showcased at the 5G Tokyo Bay Summit, hosted by NTT DOCOMO on July 22-23, 2015. These included a channel sounding solution based on the R&S SMW200A vector signal generator and the R&S FSW85. Able to cover the frequency range from 2 Hz to 85 GHz in a single sweep without the need of external harmonic mixers, it is suited for complex measurement tasks covering also the millimeter-wave frequency range relevant for 5G development.
