This digital rights management (DRM) IC is said to provide a secure, cost-effective platform enhancement for protecting digital content across all vertical industries, including music, video and publishing, as well as for general secure processing.

This digital rights management (DRM) IC is said to provide a secure, cost-effective platform enhancement for protecting digital content across all vertical industries, including music, video and publishing, as well as for general secure processing. The IT6180 RightsChip is a hardware add-on device for both PCs and Internet appliances and provides Silicon Assist functionality for security environments. The device also integrates with the company's other general-purpose DRM platform technology products. The IT6180-5P version is packaged in an eight-pin DIP, runs on a 5V supply, and requires an external, 6 MHz clock (± 10%). Surface-mount and 3V versions are planned to sample early this year. Price is below $3 each, depending on quantity.
