Supporting all ISO 7816, EMV, and GSM 11.11 applications, the DS8024 smart-card interface performs level translation between a host MCU and a 5V or 3V smart card. It provides ±8kV of ESD (IEC) protection and card activation/deactivation is via an internal sequencer for predictable application of signals and power to the card. Other features include short-circuit and over-temperature detectors, up to 80 mA of current for smart-card operation, and the chip is a drop-in upgrade for the TDA8024 and the ST8024. Available in 28-pin SO and TSSOP packages, prices start at $0.97 each/1,000. MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, Sunnyvale, CA. (800) 998-8800.
