Offered as the market's first true protocol-independent data-transport device with error correction, the TFEC0410G chip incorporates a wealth of first-time features, such as Reed Solomon out-of-band forward error correction (OoB-FEC), an optical transport network (OTN) digital wrapper framer, in-band forward error correction (IB-FEC), and SONET/SDH and performance monitoring capabilities for both 10 Gb/s and quad 2.5 Gb/s data rates. Another reported industry first is true multi-protocol, multi-rate and protocol-independent support for OTN applications, helping enable the chip to transport any type of data over fiber. The device can operate in multiple modes with or without digital wrapper, IB/OoB-FEC and regenerator loop-back modes, both as a quad 2.5 Gb/s device and as a single 10-Gb/s device. With its power-down modes operative for unused blocks, the TFEC0410G chip dissipates only 3.0W with OoB-FEC at 10 Gb/s, whereas with every block enabled simultaneously power dissipation climbs to just 6.3W in a worst case senario. The device is manufactured with a low power, COM2 process using a 1.5V core and 3V- and 5V-tolerant I/O and comes housed in a 600-lead LBGA package costing $950 each/1,000.
