Measuring about one-fourth the size of a U.S. dime, the FW643 1394B-host chip forecasts faster, more feature-rich PC and embedded system connectivity. Said to be the most integrated device of its type, the chip combines PCI Express bus and 1394B functions, making it possible for PC makers to lower silicon and system costs. It supports PCI Express active state power management (ASPM), which enables aggressive power management within the chip’s link layer. For lower-cost 1394A applications operating at 400 Mb/s, the FW533 is available and is pin-compatible with the FW643. AGERE SYSTEMS, Allentown, PA. (800) 372-2447.
