A new range of designed solutions for the development of MPEG Layer 3 audio players has been developed to give designers an alternative to conventional solutions by providing the flexibility advantages of programmable logic. Among the solutions is an MP3 evaluation platform based upon the CoolRunner XPLA3 family of CPLDs and the Micronas MAS3507D MPEF decoder. The evaluation platform accelerates the development and delivery of an MP3 player, it's claimed, to help meet the time-to-market demands of the Internet audio market. The CoolRunner XPLA3 CPLD family, which combines a Fast Zero Power technology with ultra-low standby power and high device performance, is targeted at low power portable systems, such as personal digital assistants (PDAs) and wireless products.
