Graphics Processors Consume 33% Less Power Than Previous Models

Congatec’s AMD Embedded G-Series platform combines graphics cores with limited power consumption for a variety of cost-sensitive applications.

The latest addition to congatec’s QSeven product range is the AMD Embedded G-Series system-on-chip (SoC) platform. The SoCs combines the company’s “Jaguar” processor with the graphics core of AMD RadeonT 8000 technology. The platform supports greater multimedia performance, providing a greater performance-per-watt ratio than the previous AMD-G series processors.

Three processors are currently being offered, at L2 cache 1 MB and with expected 33% less power consumption than the previous generation. The AMD GX-210 HA 1.0 GHz has 9 W thermal design power (TDP) and the AMD GX-210JA 1.0 GHz dual core has 6 W TDP. For more extreme environments, the AMD GX-209HA 1.0 GHz dual core is available with an extended temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.

The processors utilize a fanless module design which is optimal for cost-sensitive control and automation, digital gaming, communications, and graphics-rich applications. On-board error-correction code (ECC) memory support allows for use in safety-critical situations and applications in harsh environments. Additional feature functions—such as the addition of up to 8 GBytes ECC DDR3L memory chips—allow for the checking of data flow and necessary adjustments, unlike standard RAM modules.

Flexible system expansions allow for high data bandwidths, including up to four single (x1) PCI Express Gen 2 Lanes, one USB 3.0, five USB 2.0 ports, up to two SATA 3 Gb/s ports, and a Gigabit Ethernet interface. Other features include a congatec board controller, on-module SATA SSD up to 64 Gbytes, ACPI 3.0 CPU power management, and high-definition audio.

AMD’s RadeonT graphics technology supports DirectX® 11.1, OpenGL 4.2, and OpenCLT 1.2. Universal Video Decoder 4.2 is used for the seamless processing of BluRays with HDCP and decoding of H.264, MPEG4, VC-1, MPEG-2 video streams. Supported display interfaces include single/dual channel 18/24bit LVDS and DisplayPort 1.2, the latter of which enables multi-stream transport (MTS) to control up to two displays per graphics port in daisy chain mode.
