Ultra-Compact Atom E3800-Based Embedded Computer Offers Robust Features

Despite measuring 62 by 162 by 118 mm, the CEC embedded computer system maintains ruggedized features such as the ability to withstand reverse polarity voltage, overvoltage, surge and burst voltages, and electromagnetic discharges that meets tough industry standards, along with an extended operating temperature ranging from ‒40 to +85°C. The Intel Atom E3800-based system, developed by MPL, operates within 8- to 36-V supply range without a fan, heat pipes, or case openings. Power consumption ranges from 8 to 18 W, and configurable power management delivers sleep current down to 100 µA, supporting wake capability. Various wake sources (ignition signal, RS-232 ring indicator, or Wake-on-LAN), as well as mass storage choices of mSATA, 2.5-in. HD, or soldered-down eMMC opens up a range of application options. The CEC is designed for ECC-RAM, and uses only ceramic capacitors to maximize MTBF values. I/O includes five RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet ports, three USBs, one USB device, DisplayPort, one RS-232 interface, and a mPCIe/mSATA full-size slot (an additional RS-232 or RS422/485 can be incorporated). Expandability is possible through a board interface that offers two PCI, two HSIC, two UARTs, SATA, SDIO, LPC, and I2C.
