Enriching the company’s WM83xx power management portfolio, the WM8320 power management integrated circuit (PMIC) promises to reduce component counts in CE devices, maximize processor performance, and extend battery life in portable multimedia products. The device exploits the company’s BuckWise regulator technology, which enables it to cope with shifts in power requirements as users switch different product functions on and off. The regulator technology also eliminates any disturbances in the power supply outputs. The WM8320 is also viable in applications where there is no system battery, such as set-top boxes. It integrates four dc/dc synchronous regulators, two 1.2A regulators incorporating BuckWise technology, and two 1A regulators. The two 1 A regulators can be grouped together to generate a combined 1.6A output to support large memory banks or to increase efficiency by pre-regulating any of the 10 integrated LDOs. Sampling now in a 7 mm x 7 mm BGA package, price is $3.72 each/10,000. WOLFSON MICROELECTRONICS PLC, San Diego, CA. (858) 676-5090.
