Maintaining reliability in harsh environments, the MAX15046 40V-input dc/dc controller integrates robust protection features, making it viable for use in heavy-duty power supplies, PLCs, CNC systems, industrial computers, and base stations. A patent-pending current-limit architecture provides temperature-compensated, lossless current sensing across the low-side MOSFET. The architecture protects the dc/dc components from damage during output-overload or short-circuit conditions without requiring a current-sense resistor. The current-limit algorithm ensures monotonic turn-on into the pre-biased bus while adaptive internal digital soft-start reduces the input inrush current. Other features include an enable input with a precise reference and power-good output, an operating frequency programmable from 100 kHz to 1 MHz, ±1% accurate reference, and an output current up to 25A. Available in a 16-pin QSOP with an operating temperature range from -40°C to +125°C, price starts at $1.90 each/1,000. MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, Sunnyvale, CA. (800) 998-8800.
