200 V Diodes Combine Low Recovery Losses And Softness

May 17, 2013
200 V Qspeed high-performance silicon diodes, based on merged-PIN technology offering ‘soft’ switching and low reverse recovery charge.

The LQA200 series of 200 V diodes are the latest in Power Integrations’ line of Qspeed high-performance silicon diodes, based on merged-PIN technology offering ‘soft’ switching and low reverse recovery charge (Qrr). This unique balance of features enables high-frequency operation and permits the use of smaller magnetic components while maximizing operational efficiency. The ‘soft’ switching characteristics are especially beneficial for high-efficiency, high-frequency power supply secondary rectifiers and audio amplifiers. Available from 10 to 40 A in common-cathode configuration, the 200 V diodes reduce peak reverse voltage, increasing voltage margin and enhancing operational reliability and ruggedness. The need for snubber capacitors is also reduced or even eliminated, further improving efficiency. When compared with equivalent Schottky products, the Qspeed diodes boast a Qrr reduction of up to 80%, and a 45% lower junction capacitance. LQA200 series diodes are available now in DPAK, D2PAK and TO-220 packages, ranging from $0.40 to $1.20 each/10,000.
