Housed in SO8 and thermally enhanced SO8 exposed pad packages, Diodes Inc.’s ZXBM5210 reversible dc motor driver helps reduce component counts and footprints in medium-voltage, low-power consumer, appliance, industrial, and office-equipment applications. An H-bridge output stage, with currents up to 700 mA continuous and 1.2 A peak, minimizes audible switching noise and electromagnetic interference to meet low-noise requirements. The device’s 3- to 18-V supply range will support single-phase 5-, 9-, 12-, and 15-V dc motors. Power efficiency gets a boost thanks to 32-µA typical current consumption; typical operating current is 0.85 mA. Linear speed control features forward, reverse, brake, and standby modes selected via the devices’ FWD and REV input pins. Regulation of motor speed is accomplished by modifying the duty ratio of pulse-width-modulation (PWM) signals applied to the two inputs or by adjusting the dc input voltage to the VREF input pin. Protection includes undervoltage lockout, overvoltage, overcurrent and thermal shutdown. The driver has a 6-kV ESD withstand capability and will operate from −40 to +105°C.
