Trio of Power-Supply Firms Forms “Architects of Modern Power” Consortium

Nov. 21, 2014
The demand for multi-sourced, leading-edge power-conversion products led to the formation of the Architects of Modern Power consortium by CUI, Ericsson Power Modules, and Murata.

The demand for multi-sourced, leading-edge power-conversion products is at an all-time high, due to the emergence of digital control in dc-dc converters and PoL regulators driven by communications companies experiencing incredible IP traffic growth. To address these issues, CUI, Ericsson Power Modules, and Murata formed the Architects of Modern Power (AMP) consortium to create technically advanced, end-to-end distributed power solutions.

Achieving a true multi-source solution requires a level of software compatibility, including compatibility of PMBus commands, proprietary controller commands, and configuration files.  Such a task was the impetus behind the AMP Group’s formation.  The alliance plans to collaborate between participating companies to create a multi-sourced power ecosystem by establishing common mechanical and electrical specifications for their products; standardizing monitoring, control, and communications functions, and creating common configuration files for plug-and-play interoperability among products.

The AMP Group’s first set of standards for digital PoL regulators and advanced bus dc-dc converters was announced at the recent Electronica show.
