Weighing in at less than two pounds and occupying just 26.5 in.3 of space, these new switching power supplies are designed to operate both at efficiencies greater than 97% and without thermal derating over a -40.25°C to 85.25°C temperature range. Their high efficiency coupled with the placement of the EMI filter and hold-up capacitors within the switcher enables the supplies to pack more power in a smaller form factor. In addition, the modular, PFC-corrected front-end modules are also said to generate less heat, eliminating the need for bulky cooling fans.
The first member of the new family of ac/dc power supplies is the Model OPS-U-500-385, a 500W unit having a universal, 85 to 264 Vac input and 385 Vdc output. Other features of the switcher include a 50/60 Hz operating frequency, input current limited to 5.5Arms, over-voltage protection, and UL, ULC, TUV and CE approvals. Future additions to the new switcher family are expected to be rated somewhere between 200W and 1,500W.
