With its 18- to 75-V input range, the PKU5510E 50-W dc-dc converter module will fast track its way into Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) and 24- or 48-V telecommunications systems

With its 18- to 75-V input range, the PKU5510E 50-W dc-dc converter module will fast track its way into Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) and 24- or 48-V telecommunications systems. It also suits industrial applications and others that use remote power feeds, where a module is required to operate regardless of where it’s connected or length of the line cable. The module is the latest evolution of Ericsson’s PKU family, combining the recently unveiled PKU4116C’s thermal enhancements with an optimized fly-forward topology. Output current is 15 A at 3.3-V output. Built-in 2250-V dc functional isolation meets IEEE802.3 requirements. Protection includes overcurrent, overtemperature, output-over-voltage, and output short-circuit. In its sixteenth-brick footprint (1.3 by 0.9 by 0.37 in.), the device delivers up to 50 W and up to 92% efficiency at 50% load and 27-V input. In natural convection, the module operates at up to 80°C; with 3.0 m/s convection cooling, operation extends to 96°C. Mean time between failure is 4.9 million hours. The PKU5510E comes in through-hole and surface-mount versions.
