Clock Generator Exhibits Low Jitter

June 16, 2014

The DSC400 from Micrel, Inc. is a four output Crystal-less™ clock generator. This is the first Micrel MEMS-based timing product launch which utilizes Micrel's proven PureSilicon™ MEMS technology to provide excellent jitter and stability while incorporating additional device functionality. The device targets a broad range of applications including communications and networks; Ethernet 1G, 10GBASE-T/KR/LR/SR, and FCoE; storage area networks, FC, SATA, SAS, FTTH EPON, 10G-EPON, GPON and 10G-PON; HD/SD/SDI video and surveillance; automotive; media and video and embedded and industrial.

The device features low RMS phase jitter of less than 1 ps (typ) and high stability with +/-25 ppm and +/-50 ppm options. The DSC400 also offers high supply noise rejection of -50 dBc and generates four outputs. Each output maybe independently configured to be in LVPECL, LVDS, HCSL or LVCMOS format. With a wide frequency range of  2.3 MHz - 460 MHz, the device has excellent shock and vibration immunity (qualified to MIL-STD-88), high reliability and a wide supply range of  2.24 to 3.6 V. The solution is RoHS compliant and is qualified to MIL-STD-883 and automotive AEC-Q100. It has a wide temperature range; (-20 °C to 70 °C for extended commercial and -40 °C to 85 °C for industrial) and is offered in a 20 QFN footprint (5 mm x 3.2 mm) package size.

The DSC400 is available in volume quantity with pricing starting at $3.90.
