Low-Power Single-Channel Comparator Prolongs Battery Life

The new generation AZV3001 single-channel comparator from Diodes Incorporated has been specifically developed for use in battery-powered equipment that needs to operate at low voltage. The single-channel device consumes only 6µA and provides guaranteed operation from 1.6V up to 5.5V, making it well-suited for use in systems with nominal supplies of 1.8V, 3.0V or 5.0V, such as mobile phones, tablets and notebook computers, where it delivers superior performance and helps extend battery life.

The comparator features internal hysteresis in order to provide immunity to undesirable small voltage fluctuations, and uses a complementary output stage, comprising P- and N-channel MOSFETS, in order to drive outputs with a full rail-to-rail voltage swing. Miniaturized package options help reduce PCB board space: the AZV3001 is offered in a 6-pin X2-DFN1410-6 package and the dual-channel AZV3002, available later this year, in an 8-pin U-FLGA1616-8 package.

With a low propagation delay of 0.8µs, a low input bias current of 1pA and no risk of phase inversion when the input is overdriven, these comparators offer embedded system design engineers a general-purpose solution to almost all low-voltage portable device requirements.
