Anritsu Introduces Tri-Wavelength µOTDRs

April 4, 2012. Anritsu Company has introduced µOTDR modules for its Network Master MT9090A platform that provide all the tools necessary for installing and maintaining high-speed, high-bandwidth optical networks, including PON-based FTTx networks featuring up to a 1×64 split. With performance that rivals traditional OTDRs, the Network Master MT9090A µOTDR MU909014C/15C modules provide three wavelengths—1310 nm and 1550 nm for installation and either 1625 nm or 1650 nm for maintenance—and combine an OTDR, power meter, light source, loss test set, PON power meter, and connector inspection microscope in a single pocket-sized design.

The MU909014C/15C feature improved dynamic range of up to 38 dB, to ensure accurate and complete fiber evaluation of any network, including premises, access, metro, and core. The dynamic range as well as the µOTDR’s enhanced mid-range pulse widths allow the new Network Master MT9090A modules to deliver better resolution and sampling of 2 cm, eliminating the need to test at multiple wavelengths, which saves time and simplifies testing. The µOTDRs also feature up to 250,000 data points, for accurate mapping of events, and dead zones of <1 meter.

As is the case with all the models in the Network Master MT9090A platform, the MU909014C/15C µOTDR series is compact and lightweight. It measures only 19×9.6×4.8 cm and weighs only 700 g. Its small size makes the MT9090A well suited for the outside plant environment and can easily be managed with one hand. The MU909014C/15C modules also maintain the ease of use associated with the Network Master family. They feature full auto operation, which makes it simple to set up a sequence of tests that require only one key press to initiate, as well as PASS/FAIL indicators for simplified testing and troubleshooting.

For maintenance-only applications, the MU909014C/15C modules are available in standalone 1625 nm or 1650 nm models.
