Anritsu, ETS-Lindgren launch joint 5G NR OTA measurement solution

July 17, 2019
ALLEN, TX—Anritsu Company and ETS-Lindgren continue their long-term collaboration in cellular and short-range technologies with the integration of Anritsu’s Radio Communication Test Station MT8000A for 5G Over-the-Air (OTA) testing with the ETS-Lindgren EMQuest EMQ-100 Antenna Measurement Software.

The accurate and flexible turnkey solution allows user equipment (UE) developers and manufacturers to characterize and validate the 5G OTA performance of their designs. This collaboration enables existing customers to efficiently upgrade their LTE solutions to support 5G New Radio (5G NR).

Anritsu’s new MT8000A test platform supports the latest 5G technologies, including wideband signal processing and beam forming required by 5G NR enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB). The MT8000A all-in-one platform supports sub-6 GHz (FR1) and mmWave band (FR2) signaling RF tests covering 400 MHz to 6 GHz, as well as the 28 GHz and 39 GHz 5G NR bands. The MT8000A supports both NSA (non-standalone) and SA (standalone) modes and can be paired with the LTE-A Radio Communication Analyzer MT8821C to provide a natural upgrade path to 5G for existing LTE customers.

"The MT8000A is 3GPP Release 16-ready and is recognized as the most stable, accurate, and flexible 5G platform for RF testing in the industry," Anritsu said in a press release.

Anritsu began shipping the MT8000A with both sub-6 GHz and mmWave last year and, now with commercial 5G devices available, Anritsu and ETS-Lindgren can reliably test and validate the OTA performance of 5G devices using the MT8000A with the ETS-Lindgren hardware and software. To date, Anritsu and ETS-Lindgren have successfully delivered several 5G NR OTA test systems. The seamless integration of this hardware and software solution results in an efficient turnkey package for 5G NR test applications.

ETS-Lindgren’s EMQuest EMQ-100 offers a wide range of fully parameterized test methods for measuring basic antenna performance metrics, as well as testing both radiated and conducted performance of various wireless devices. Flexible in its design, the EMQuest EMQ-100 can be used to analyze antennas in stand-alone applications, or to test an embedded antenna system and radio module against any of the industry-standard OTA-radiated performance test requirements.

“Anritsu is committed to developing comprehensive solutions to verify 5G NR designs to help ensure the optimal launch of the technology," said Adnan Khan, Anritsu Company senior business development manager. "Our latest collaboration with ETS-Lindgren is based on our previous success together, and combines our innovative MT8000A with the ETS-Lindgren EMQuest EMQ-100 to establish a truly unique test system that addresses the market need."

Jari Vikstedt, director of wireless wolutions with ETS-Lindgren added, “We’ve enjoyed working with Anritsu over the years to help our customers successfully perform the most demanding measurements of wireless devices. From our early days collaborating on OTA test requirements, to the challenges presented by today’s new 5G NR technologies, we appreciate that Anritsu shares our commitment to innovation and high-quality test and measurement solutions for wireless devices.”
