The E5052A signal-source analyzer boasts of replacing a large rack of test equipment with a single instrument while accelerating measurement speeds by a factor of 10. Additionally, the instrument is said to test more signal sources than any other single instrument available. These include crystal, voltage-controlled, surface acoustic wave, dielectric resonator, and YIG-tuned oscillators, plus all types of frequency synthesizers and local-oscillator circuits. The instrument measures phase noise, modulation domain, power, frequency, and dc current consumption. Other features include a spectrum monitor function, a phase-noise frequency offset range of 1 Hz to 40 MHz and a frequency span that can be selected between 1.6 MHz and 25.6 MHz in the heterodyne (narrowband) mode. Price begins at $75,000. AGILENT TECHNOLOGIES INC., Palo Alto, CA. (800) 235-0312.
