Software Modem Serves 8-Bit Embedded Applications

Dec. 1, 1998

Engineers can reduce parts count and system cost in embedded applications requiring data connectivity, such as point-of-sale terminals and remote metering systems, with a new reference design that implements a fully functional 1200-baud FSK/2400-baud DPSK modem in software using the SX Series 8-bit MCU. The modem is fully compliant with Bell 202 and CCITT V.22 bus standards. The reference design also includes DTMF generation and detection and caller ID functions. The 50-MHz µC can fully execute modem functions in software.
