OEMs developing and manufacturing Bluetooth, wireless LAN, W-CDMA, and other such third-generation products are expected to be the primary users of the E4991A impedance/material analyzer. The instrument, which offers a 3-GHz bandwidth versus 1.8 GHz for the company's existing 4291B impedance analyzer, also boasts of better measurement repeatability, a Windows-style user interface, and PC connectivity features. The unit provides additional capabilities such as traceability of impedance measurement uncertainties and dedicated 3-GHz test fixtures. A proprietary RF-IV technique allows impedance measurement by directly measuring voltage and current. The E4991A is priced at $44,530.
