Optimized for a wide variety of WAN edge applications, the nP3404 is a highly integrated single-chip solution for multi-gigabit packet processing. The device combines the company's nPcore-based network processing technology with traffic management, search engine, switching, and MAC capabilities on one software-programmable chip with four flexible, gigabit-rate ports. Typical applications are edge routers, high-speed IP access solutions for multi-tenant and multi-dwelling units, voice gateways, and VPN boxes. The nPcores offer packet processing capabilities of 12-million packets-per-second, fully software-programmable. The nP3404 is complemented by the company's nPsoft development environment, including macro assembler and C/C++ compiler, symbolic debugger, simulator, and off-the-shelf software libraries for switching and routing applications. Packaged in a 596-pin EDHS BGA and currently sampling, the device is priced at $170 in volume quantities. APPLIED MICRO CIRCUITS CORP., Sunnyvale, CA. (408) 328-4713.
