Oscillator Series Employs MEMS Resonators

July 5, 2006
Proprietary MEMS design allows Ecliptek EMO devices to use ultra-miniature packaging.

The EMO series oscillators employ a vibrating MEMS mechanical resonator 1000 times smaller than its consumer-grade quartz competitor. This allows the device to use ultraminiature packaging without sacrificing performance. The proprietary MEMS resonator design and exclusive programming methods used for the EMO series permits the company to ship samples to customers in as little as two days and high-volume production orders in two weeks.

The devices come in QFN-type plastic injection-molded packages, which offer good thermal performance, high reliability, low lead inductance, and low cost. In comparison, quartz crystal oscillators require more expensive, special purpose ceramic or metal packages. Available package sizes include 5 mm by 7 mm, 3.2 mm by 5 mm, 2,5 mm by 3.2 mm, and 2.5 mm by 2.0 mm. Supply voltages include 3.3, 2.5, and 1.8 V.
