Designed for memory-module applications, the CAT34TS02 combines a 12-bit (plus Sign bit) digital-output temperature sensor with 2 kbits of serial presence detect (SPD) EEPROM. The part is ideally suited for DDR3 applications in high-speed PCs and laptops, graphics cards, servers, telecom equipment and base stations, environmental control systems and industrial process-control equipment. It’s compliant with JEDEC specification JC42.4, providing ±1°C temperature sensing accuracy from +75°C to +95°C and ±3°C accuracy from +20°C to +100°C. The sensor measures and records the system temperature approximately 10 times per second, and compares that to three trigger limits stored in the internal memory registers. Readings can be retrieved by the host system via the I2C/SMBus interface, Over- and under-limit conditions are signaled on the open-drain EVENT pin. The CAT34TS02 non-volatile memory retains custom-configured sensor and threshold values at power-up. The integrated 2-kbit SPD EEPROM is internally organized as 16 pages of 16 bytes each, for a total of 256 bytes. The EEPROM features a 16-byte page write buffer, supports both the standard and fast I2C protocols, and supports permanent and reversible software write protection. The sensor comes packaged in a 2-mm x 3-mm, 8-pad TDFN. Pricing for the CAT34TS02 temperature sensor with EEPROM is $0.75 each in 10,000-unit quantities. Samples are available now, and projected lead-time for production quantities is currently six to eight weeks. ON SEMICONDUCTOR, Phoenix, AZ. (888) 743-7826.
