These cable assemblies employ a type of single-mode fiber that preserves the polarization of light as it travels through the fibers. Via proprietary assembly techniques and customized testing processes, the polarization-maintaining (PM) assemblies are said to be precisely aligned to either the mechanical plane or optical plane and report low insertion losses. The cables can be terminated with industry-standard connectors, including SC, FC, LC and MU styles, as well as blind-mate backplane connectors, such as BSC and BLC for use at 1,300 nm or 1,550 nm. Lead times for the PM cables range from two to three weeks. MOLEX FIBER OPTICS, Downers Grove, IL. (800) 213-4237.
