A line of solid capacitors that utilize niobium as the anode material is now available. Lower in density than tantulum, this material lowers the weight of the components in which it is used. Niobium is also more economical to use as a capacitor substrate.

The devices feature 293D, 292D, and 595D form factors. They suit output filtering in cell phones, PCs, dc-dc converters, and a wide range of portable electronic systems. The niobium devices will be used as socket- and specification-compatible alternatives to 4- to 16-V solid tantulum capacitors as well as high-capacitance MLCCs and certain midrange surface-mount aluminum capacitors. The capacitors feature DCL and equivalent series resistance limits that are equal to corresponding tantulum capacitors.

Capacitance levels range from 10 to 1000 µF. The devices are rated for an extended -55°C to 85°C operating-temperature range and a derating temperature of 125°C. Evaluation samples are now available in conventional lead-frame molded chip packaging, the company's high-performance "conformal" chip packaging, and the newly developed 292D molded leadless chip package.
