Vishay Intertechnology’s Sprague T42 series of TANTAMOUNT solid tantalum molded chip capacitors combines a built-in fuse for fail-safe operation with high capacitance and voltage ratings, plus equivalent series resistance (ESR) down to 80 mΩ at +25°C and 100 kHz.

The surface-mount devices, available with high-reliability screening and surge current testing options in accordance with MIL-PRF-55365, suit filtering, decoupling, and energy-storage applications in weapons and radar systems, avionics, and space-based electronics. The built-in fuse protects against catastrophic failures in such safety-critical applications, offering protection at 5 A for 10 ms. It’s also ensures activation while avoiding false triggering. A multi-anode “mirror” structure reduces ESR by at least 50%. Capacitance ranges from 10 to 470 µF, with tolerances of ±10% and ±20%. Voltage ratings range from 16 to 75 V dc. Operating temperature extends from ‒55 to +85°C (+125°C with voltage derating), and maximum ripple current from 0.7 to 1.8 A.
