Zetex Semiconductors claims its new series of SOT23 packaged bipolar transistors will reduce PCB size ‘significantly’. The company says its products have a 2.5mm x 3.05mm footprint (as opposed to the usual 6.7mm x 7.3mm), but achieve the same current handling capability as the larger equivalents, while saving up to 80% space.
Capable of switching loads of up to 400W, the initial offering of six miniature devices comprises three NPN and three PNP transistors, rated at 50V, 60V and 100V. The ZXTN and ZXTP high power density transistors dissipate up to 1.2W of power. They also support a continuous collector current up to 5A and peak collector current up to 12A. The devices are suitable drivers of power MOSFETs, IGBTs, DC motors, relays, solenoids and high power LEDs.
Low saturation voltage ensures that power losses and circuit efficiency are optimised by the transistors: for example, the 100V ZXTN2020F is characterised by a VCE(sat) of 50mV for a collector current of 1A.
The price of the ZXTN and ZXTP transistors, through distributors, is US$0.21 in 10,000 piece quantities.
