The Type EDL (Electronic Double Layer) capacitor from Cornell Dubilier Electronics Inc. is designed for use in battery backup applications where memory hold is critical when battery replacement is necessary. Capacitances from 0.22 F to 70 F are available in voltage ranges from 2.1 to 5.5 V dc, depending on value. The long life (15-year) capacitor is available in horizontal and vertical radial-leaded, stacked-coin configurations, a cylindrical case with radial leads, or a surface-mountable package.

The EDL has an unlimited charging and discharging capability and extends battery life up to 1.6 times. Typical applications include cellular handsets, solar battery backup, small motor starters, gaming machines, real-time clock battery backup, and remote reading utility meters. Typical prices for the values offered range up to $5.00 each. Lead time is stock to 13 weeks.
