Addressing the increasing demands placed on clutches by higher and higher speed paper transport drives, the MIC series of micro clutches boasts of three times the speed and life span of bushing-style clutches. The new clutches can operate up to 1,500 rpm as opposed to the 4000 to 600 rpm speeds bushing clutches are generally limited to.
Miniature ball bearings employed in the rotor and gear side of the clutch are said to be the source of the increased speed capability. They also extend clutch life by producing less heat than conventional clutches running at higher speeds. The bearings are shielded, protecting them from paper dust, and the bearing on the armature side is installed directly into a custom-molded gear.
