The EC series of brushless motors is electronically commutated, thus reportedly enabling extremely long motor life, since there are simply no mechanical brushes to wear out. Hall-effect sensors are built into the motor in order to provide feedback to the control electronics. By assembling the motor such that the coils are outside the rotor, good heat dissipation and high overload capability is attained. The 32-mm diameter x 60-mm long brushless motor delivers 80W of continuous output power and has a maximum speed of 25,000 rpm. Ambient temperature range is -20¡C to 125¡C. Utilizing high-energy neodymium magnets results in a high torque capability in a small size package. Using electronic commutation allows for minimum electrical noise; and the motors are CE approved, signifying electromagnetic compatibility in the European market. Motors are offered with both "Y" or "delta" configurations to optimize performance. Complementing the motors are gearheads with ratios ranging from 3.7:1 to 6285:1 capable of 920 oz.-in. of intermittent torque. MAXON PRECISION MOTORS INC., Burlingame, CA. (800) 865-7540.
