Direct Drive Motors Kits Provide Diameters Up To One Meter
June 28, 2010
The LARC Series direct-drive frameless motors are available with diameters up to one meter and employ simple Lorentz mechanisms to create motion. Magnets, mounted to a metal ring, or arc-shaped segment, interact with current in phase coils to create force, which is applied at the radius creating torque. Coil control is via microcontroller and some transistors. The coil holder contains three coils, one for each of three phases that can be energized in a variety of ways. Motor voltage spans from 5V up to 300V. Prices for LARC components range from $800 to $3,000 each for configurations with 200-mm to 1-m diameters. APPLIMOTION INC., Loomis, CA. (916) 652-3118.
