Addressing the tradeoffs between specifying high-cost polyimide (PI) or lower-performing/-cost polyethylene napthalate or polyester, Ultem 5000B film reportedly offers a combination of high performance and cost-effectiveness. Based on the company’s Ultem polyetherimide resin, the material exhibits high-temperature and flame resistance, low moisture absorption, and reliable dielectric properties. It is a worthy candidate for applications such as insulating tapes and laminates, diaphragms and voice coils, high-temperature bar code labels, and flat flexible heaters. The film is available in black and amber and in gauges from 25 mm to 750 mm. Other features include UL-94 VTM-0 and RoHS/WEEE compliance and a wide choice of processing including thermoforming, drilling, die cutting, cold forming, laminating, metal sputtering, and ultrasonic welding. Additionally, Ultem 5000B is heat sealable to itself and other materials.
