The DG-QFN56B-01 socket, operating at up to 40-GHz bandwidths with less than 1 dB of insertion loss, is targeted for 0.4-mm-pitch, QFN 56-pin ICs. Ironwood Electronics’ socket, designed for a 7- by 7-mm package, dissipates 12 W with a lid-mounted heatsink and fan. Contact resistance is typically 3 mO per pin. Temperature range is -70 to +200°C. No solder is required for mounting, and its shoulder-screw and swivel-lid construction incorporates a quick insertion method for fast change out of ICs. The socket is built with a high-performance, low-inductance diamond particle interconnect contactor that’s capable of 100,000 insertions.
