High-Performance Elastomer Socket Built For 8-mm QFN Package

Feb. 7, 2014
Ironwood Electronics’ SG-MLF-7079 elastomer socket, operating at bandwidths up to 10 GHz with less than 1 dB of insertion loss, is designed for an 8- by 8- by-0.8-mm, 0.5-mm-pitch quad flat no-lead (QFN) package.

Contact resistance is typically 20 mΩ per pin. All pins are connected with 10-GHz bandwidth on all connections. Socket mounting uses supplied hardware on the target printed-circuit board with no soldering. An opening in the middle of the socket allows access to the die, and facilitates thermal characterization. Operating temperature ranges from −35 to +100°C. Pin self-inductance measures 0.15 nH, with a mutual inductance of 0.025 nH. Capacitance to ground is 0.01 pF. Current capacity is 2 A per pin.
