Aluminum-Housed Resistors Rated Up To 500 W

May 30, 2013
Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. released the VACR, a series of compact aluminum-housed resistors with power ratings up to 500 W.

The VACR series of compact aluminum-housed resistors from Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. carry power ratings up to 500 W. The new devices will serve in industrial, motor drive, railway, renewable energy, and other high-power systems as braking, chopper, pre-discharging, and voltage-limiting resistors, among other applications. The Vishay Draloric VACR resistors feature power ratings from 50 W to 500 W, with IP20 or IP65 protection. Standard tolerance is ± 10 %, with a maximum permissible operating voltage of UL 600 V and/or UL 1000 V, depending on model. With short-term loads, these VACR resistors are characterized by up to an elevenfold overload (on-time 6 % with a 120 s cycle duration).E24 series resistance values are standard, with other values available on request.

The VACR resistors come in a completely housed construction that provides enhanced humidity protection and features low weight up to 1.1 kg. Multiple construction and heatsink mounting options are available for higher power ratings. The devices can be ordered either in horizontal or vertical arrangements. Their compact enclosure ranges in size from 160 mm x 40 mm x 20 mm to 337 mm x 60 mm x 30 mm, depending on power rating.

Samples and production quantities of the VACR resistors are available now, with lead times of eight to 10 weeks for larger orders. Pricing for U.S. delivery ranges from $41 for the 50 W version to $72 for the 500 W version for small quantities.
