Using a carbon aerogel-foam technology, these electrochemical double-layer capacitors (EDLC) are claimed to have 2000 times the volumetric capacitance of standard aluminum electrolytic capacitors, as well as extremely low ESR values and low current leakage. Charge is stored electrostatically in the electrochemical double-layer formed on the carbon surface. Used as a pulse-power device, the capacitor can release a charge extremely fast, providing power up to 40000 W/kg. Pricing starts at $1.40 each/ 10,000.
