Celebrating a twentieth anniversary, LabVIEW 8.20 reiterates its support for third-party hardware and software by extending the program's graphical dataflow language with native support for text-based math with MathScript. This allows MATLAB users to integrate m-files or create new scripts with LabVIEW and mix and match graphical and text-based topologies. Additionally, the latest version supports algorithms from other math packages including Maplesoft Maple, Mathsoft Mathcad, and Scilab. For FPGA-based development, expanded machine monitoring IP libraries are available and users can add third-party IP through the VHDL node in the LabVIEW FPGA Module. Other improvements include faster algorithm-execution speeds for both PID and advanced control systems, and support for TI 6713 and Philips ARM7 229x processors plus QNX and MonteVista Linux operating systems. Pricing starts from $1,195. NATIONAL INSTRUMENTS, Austin, TX. (888) 280-7645.
