Heralded as the industry’s first web-customizable clock generator, the Si5355/56 eight-output CMOS clock generators are capable of synthesizing four unique, non-integer related frequencies from 1 MHz to 200 MHz. They provide a guaranteed 0-ppm frequency synthesis error for any combination of frequencies, enabling the replacement of multiple clock ICs and crystal oscillators with a single device. Via a web configuration utility known as ClockBuilder, factory-customized and pin-controlled Si5355 devices are available in less than two weeks. The Si5355 leverages a single PLL architecture and the company’s MultiSynth fractional divider technology to reportedly provide greater frequency flexibility and lower jitter than three- or four-PLL clock generators. It can generate any combination of output frequencies from a standard 25- or 27-MHz crystal. The device also supports 5- to 200-MHz reference clock inputs. The Si5356 debuts as an I2C-programmable, any-rate 1 MHz to 200 MHz spread spectrum clock generator. Spread spectrum is available on any clock output with any frequency and any spread amount. Both the Si5355 and Si5356 are available in 4 mm x 4 mm, 24-QFN packages. Prices are $3 and $3.60 each/10,000, respectively. SILICON LABORATORIES INC., Austin, TX. (877) 444-3032.
