Trumpeted as the industry's first flash memory devices with a 55 ns read access speed, the 29 Series SSF (small-sector flash) products draw a standby current of just 1 mA and an active current of 10 mA. The devices incorporate a small 128 byte sector architecture, said to be responsible for their speed and low current consumption.
Features include a typical 100,000 cycles endurance and greater than 100 years data retention, latched address and data, and a 70 ms chip-erase time. The first member of the product family is the SST29VF040, a 4-Mbit device priced at $2.78 each/100,000. Other 512-Kbit, 1-Mbit, 2-Mbit, 8 Mbit and 16-Mbit devices will follow.
