The latest member of the TMS320C64x DSP generation is said to offer more MMACS per dollar and per Watt than competing products. With this device, the company is expanding the reach of the C64x DSP generation, addressing lower-power performance-efficient applications, such as residential media servers, security/surveillance systems, telecom/datacom systems and hardcopy appliances. With a 250 mW core at 1.0V, the C6411 DSP delivers 300 MHz, 2,400 MIPs and 1,200 MMACS of performance. In addition, the C6411 DSP features a 64-channel EDMA for superior I/O efficiency; a 32-bit EMIF for high bandwidth to memory; two multi-channel buffered serial ports (McBSPs) for easy audio and telecom interfacing; two 32-bit timers with the ability to count external events; an HPI32/33 MHz PCI to simplify host connectivity; 16-bit GPIO pins which can be programmed to generate different CPU interrupts and EDMA events; and a 23 mm/532 BGA package. Samples of the TMS320C6411 DSP will be available in 3Q 2002 with full production in 4Q 2002. Pricing is $39 each/10,000. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INC., Dallas, TX. (800) 477-8924.
