Eliminating the need for external amplifiers on each sensor input channel, the MAXQ7670A system-on-chip (SoC), mixed-signal microcontroller (MCU) integrates a differential amplifier and all necessary functions to measure small-amplitude differential analog input signals. Extending mixed-signal performance of the previously introduced MAXQ7670 to the 12-bit level, the MCU includes programmable gain control on each input channel to eliminate the need for external amplification, resulting in PCB area savings up to 40%. Other features include a RISC CPU, an embedded CAN bus controller, eight single-ended/four differential inputs, a 125-ksamples/s ADC with a 12-bit resolution, 2 KB of SRAM, and 64 KB of automotive-grade flash memory. Available in a 40-pin, 5mm x 5mm TQFN package, prices start at $3.58 each/1,000. MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, Sunnyvale, CA. (800) 998-8800.
