24-Bit Data Acquisition System Eyes High-Resolution Measurement Apps
The combination of a 24-bit delta-sigma A/D converter with an enhanced 8051 processor core, flash memory, and a variety of high-performance peripherals is said to make the MSC1210 family of ICs an ideal choice for high-resolution measurement applications in industrial process control, portable instrumentation, weigh scale, smart transmitter, and chromatography products. The integration of analog and digital cores in this 24-bit data acquisition system helps permit the devices to be customized to specific user requirements. And the enhanced 8051 core executes up to three times faster, with lower power, than standard 8051 cores. The MSC1210 family comes with a variety of flash memory sizes that are pin and function compatible, allowing users to freely migrate between devices as their code requirements change. And the family is also said to offer the industryÕs lowest noise performance in a mixed-signal device (75 nV), while its A/D converter samples at a faster rate than comparable devices. The devices operate using a 2.7V to 5.25 supply, dissipate only 4 mW, and, with 8K of flash and a TQFP-64 package, cost $9.50 each/1,000.
