With several new enhancements, the CMX850 80C51 microcontroller is expected to meet all design, communications, control, data, and signaling requirements for any wire-line end-product using on-line communications. Enhancements include increased sensitivity of the on-chip CAS tone detector and the addition of a stand-alone FSK demodulator. The enhancements reportedly improve type I and II Caller Line ID (CLI) operations, as well as allow on-hook CLI operations to take place while the remaining circuitry is in a power save mode. With an eye on design budgets, a programmable Tx DTMF twist feature allows the device to be used with lower-cost DAA circuits. The device is also said to be the first embedded MCU of its kind with an integrated V.22bis modem supporting V22bis, V.22, V.23, V.21, and Bell equivalents. Other features include up to 35 general-purpose I/O pins, a 16 x 8 keyboard encoder, LCD controller interface, and advanced power management. Available in a 100-lead PQFP, the device operates on 3V to 3.6V and consumes 6.5 mA typical at full operation with a full power-save requirement of 20 µA.
