SoC Enables Enhanced A/V Functions In Car Navigation/Infotainment Systems
Groomed for compact portable navigation systems and low- and mid-priced dashboard-mounted car navigation and infotainment systems, the SH7777 (SH-NaviJ3) embarks as the third member of the SH-NaviJ Series system-on-chip (SoC) devices. The device reportedly speeds up development through OpenGL ES1.11 support and offers enhanced multimedia functions such as terrestrial digital TV. Of note, it incorporates a more powerful version of the series’ graphics processor with 2-D and 3-D rendering support. Other features include multi-codec video processing IP with support for the H.264/MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) video compression standard common to ISDB-T3 terrestrial digital broadcasts, a 24-bit dedicated audio DSP with support for a variety of compression formats, a GPS8 baseband processor module, TS interface, and CAN9 and MOST10 interfaces. Additionally, a wide variety of middleware resources are available for the SH7777 including H.264, MPEG-4, and WMV6 video and MP3, WMA, and AAC Plus audio. In a 21 mm x 21 mm, 440-pin BGA, sample price is about $35 each. RENESAS TECHNOLOGY AMERICA INC., San Jose, CA. (408) 382-7407.
