Digital Switches Let VoIP Interface With Traditional Telephony Standards The TSI (time slot interchange) digital switch family lets voice-over-IP (VoIP) applications maintain an interface with traditional telephony-based standards. In turn, this enables the switching and routing of digital telephony signals during the transfer of voice information. Based on traditional time-division multiplexed (TDM) interface standards, the TSI family includes a number of features. Its pulse-code modulation (PCM) protocol support (ST-Bus/GCI) is compatible with popular TDM bus standards. Buffered data modes support voice and data switching. A simple microprocessor interface and control eases programmability. The JTAG port on most models has boundary-scan support for improved pc-board manufacturing. And, the 3.3-V offerings save power.

Models in the TSI switch family range in price from $6.50 to $65 each in 10,000-unit quantities.

Network Processor Family Provides Ample Headroom The IQ2000 network processor family provides flexible, wire-speed deep-packet processing at speeds ranging from DS0 to OC-48. Individually, its models represent single-chip solutions with variations in on-chip memory and external connectivity for supporting unique applications and systems requirements. When operating as an RFC1812-compliant router and driving 3 million packets/s across dual gigabit streams, the IQ2000 provides 40% additional processing headroom. With a single gigabit stream, it furnishes at least 60% headroom.

Each device features four internal 200-MHz RISC-based packet-processing engines. Multiple hardware-based (embedded) adjunct processors, such as lookup coprocessors and DMA coprocessors, are also included. The IQ2000 addresses up to two Gbytes of high-speed RDRAM memory for data table storage. These devices are equipped with four FOCUS buses for input and output operations. Four QoS engines per chip are included as well.

The family consists of six chips. All six come packaged in a 673-pin BGA. Prices start at $250.

Ethernet IC Combines Switch, Transceivers, And On-Chip Memory The KS8995 Ethernet IC combines a layer 2 switch, five 10/100Base-T transceivers, and on-chip memory. It consumes 500 mA of power at 2.5 V or 1.25 W, including transmit output drive currents. The chip's surface temperature is 40°C at 25°C ambient room temperature. The on-chip SRAM supplies built-in frame buffering and 1.4-Gbit/s high-performance memory bandwidth. It also provides unmanaged operation for 100Base-TX, 100Base-FX, and 10Base-T networks in SOHO and LAN applications.

A variety of features are included, such as hardware-based 10/100, full or half duplex, and flow control and auto negotiation. Also, it uses individual port-forced modes (full duplex, 100Base-TX) when the auto negotiation is disabled. An integrated address lookup engine supports 1K absolute MAC address. Automatic address learning, address aging and address migration, broadcast storm protection, and comprehensive LED support are provided as well. Furthermore, the IC only needs a 2.5-V power supply.

Available now, the KS8995 costs $20 in 1000-piece quantities and $15 in 100,000-unit quantities.

Network Processor Platform Integrates Silicon With Software The DSL Service-Specific Network Processor platform's second edition integrates silicon with networking and operating-system software. This complete, optimized foundation for next-generation DSL customer premises equipment cuts design time in half. It also offers the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), permitting on-the-fly IP addressing. The DHCP enables the Routing Information Protocol and Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) over asynchronous transfer mode (ATM). An additional buffer management scheme enhances routing performance as well.

Overall, this platform is an integration of silicon with a real-time operating system and networking protocols that adapt Ethernet packets for transport via PPP and ATM. It can be used in conjunction with standard DSL services, including G.Lite and full-rate asynchronous DSL (ADSL). Equipment makers can add existing or new IP-based applications to the platform with complete compatibility through its open application program interface.

The suggested per-unit price is $14 in 1000-unit lots.

OEM Manufacturing And Licensing Kit Facilitates Integration Of Universal Access Modules The MTN800 is a manufacturing and licensing kit for OEMs that enables the fabrication and integration of high-density voice, fax, ISDN, and modem processing subsystems based on the UniPorte architecture. It provides all of the hardware and software documentation needed to integrate MTN1000 universal access modules into a custom network access system. The MTN1000 family, meanwhile, is based on the UniPorte architecture.

These modules are scalable in 12-port increments. They use a TDM bus that supports MVIP, H.100, and H.110 signaling to acquire and process DS0 channels from external network interface devices.
