Omni-Polar Sensor Switches Reduce Power, Simplify Production
Promising to substantially reduce power consumption in battery-powered devices and dramatically simplify production processes, the AH1802 and AH1888 low-voltage, omni-polar Hall-effect sensor switches operate over a wide supply-voltage range and within an operating-temperature range of -40ºC to +85ºC. The devices detect the magnetic field generated by the north and south poles, eliminating the need for production processes that manage magnet orientation. The AH1802 has an open-drain single output and comes in a 0.4-mm high DFN2015 package. Operational range is 2.5V to 5.5V and power consumption is 24 µW for a supply voltage of 3V. The AH1888 provides dual complementary push-pull outputs that adjust to polarity changes, allowing the device to support the wheel-type magnets used to detect position and orientation for displays or keyboards that pivot or rotate. The device comes in a, 0.55-/0.6-mm high SOT553 package with an operating-voltage range from 1.65V to 3V and a power consumption of 15 µW for a supply voltage of 1.8V. Prices for the AH1802 and AH1888 are $0.30 and $0.35 each/1,000, respectively. DIODES INC., Westlake Village, CA. (805) 446-4800.
