Gb Transceivers Take Up Little Space

July 1, 2001

Occupying half the board space of a standard 1 x 9 (SC) transceiver, the SFF LC 2.5 gigabit (Gb) transceivers are available in three versions and meet data communication industry standards. The SFF 1G/2G Fibre Channel transceiver version is a rate agile device, which meets both the 1.0625 and 2.125 Gb/s Fibre Channel specifications. Also available is a module compliant with the Gb Ethernet standard at 1.25 Gb/s. A third version operates at the Infiniband speed of 2.5 Gb/s and can be used for other proprietary applications as well. These transceivers utilize the LC optical connector interface and operate on a 3.3V power supply. Incorporating native oxide 850 nm VCSEL technology, the transceivers operate over multimode fiber for distances up to 550 meters. They are ac coupled and compatible with TTL signal detect and come in a standard 2 x 5-pin configuration. The modules operate over a temperature range of 0ûC to 70¡C and can be stored from -40ûC to +85¡C. Prices start at $90 each/1,000.
