Trimming the budget in portable applications, the EMIF06-SD02F3 memory-card interface provides five essential functions for products that rely on secure digital (SD) memory cards. The flip-chip device integrates signal conditioning, bidirectional level shifting, ESD protection, EMI filtering, and a 2.9V voltage regulator, five functions that promise to increase system reliability and save more than 75% worth of board space over discrete topologies. In a lead-free, 24-bump, 400-micron pitch flip-chip package, the chip complies with standard and high-speed SD standards plus MiniSD, MMC, and uSD/TransFlash. ESD protection on the card-side pins meets the IEC61000-4-2 Level 4 standard for 15 kV air discharge. The 800-MHz to 3-GHz EMI filter achieves over 20-dB attenuation at 1 GHz and six high-speed bidirectional level shifters operating at 50 MHz exhibit a typical propagation delay of 3 ns. Other features include a maximum channel-to-channel skew of 1.5 ns and a quiescent off current of 1 µA. Price is $1.10 each for quantities up to one million units and $0.95 each in quantities of one to five million. STMICROELECTRONICS, Lexington, MA. (888) 787-3550.
